Hello all. Here I would like to comment upon and post my perspectives on a lot of things. Since I recently saw bahubali part 2 and then part 1 again I would like to share the theories I made and things I noticed. So, why waste time. Let's delve into it.
First thing and the most striking thing we notice in the entire movie is the repeated reference to Lord Shiva and the reference to The eternal or perennial river that flows. The first movie starts with praise for the river and the second movie ends with the prayer for Lord Shiva. The corresponding songs are Shivam and Jeevanadi. Make a careful note of the lyrics here and I suggest you listen them again so that you can appreciate them in a wider context here.
First to understand let me explain some history first. Before Aryans and their vedic gods, for thousands of years people in the indus valley and the sub-continemt worshipped a primordial form of a unified single and eternal god. He is depicted in Harappa seals as pashupati. He is the modern day Shiva, as most claim, but more purer and it's primordial form. Pashupati means Lord of all the living beings. There are some indisputable proofs that pashupati was worshipped in the form of a lingam/ling.
Let me explain what it represents first. God is the father of all and giver of life. Mother is the the force of nature and noursiher of life. So the union of both is celebration and worship of life. As some people claim, rightly so I think, that this pashupati ling form of worship was ancient celebrating communion of female noursiher and male life giver. As in ancient times as of now, any long consists of two parts : the long itself I.e. the long cylindrical spherical head stone and the base which is known as paanavattam (which means holder or binder of life) . Some people claim them to be symbols of male and female reproductive parts which I leave to reader interpretation. Now, as of ancient times, lingams are generally established with panavattam first and then on an auspicious occasion placed on its center with more powerful lingam or the cylindrical stone. When people find or when god himself presents his statue he gives it in the form of Shiva lingam which then placed on appropriately prepared paanavattam. This is the first point to note.
The second is that Lord Shiva is also called pashupati. Paashupatam is the verses in praise life giving aspect of Lord Shiva. A small episode is to be narrated to get this concept of paashupatam. This is a song sung when Lord Shiva got angry with lesser gods like Indra and Varuna that he took out his weapon called pashupati Astra which sucks away life from any and very living being it encounters and leaves them as alive but dead bodies, or more like zombies but with no brain or movement. Or more like stone. Lord Shiva himself is credited to blow life into lingam enabling to manifest himself or suck away life from it making it a stone. Coming back, When lesser gods are scared of mighty Lord Shiva they begged his forgiveness and sand paashupatam stores. He clams down and impressed and gives the Shiva dhanus or the bow to the gods. He also endows Lord yama with power of paashupatam with something called pasham which sucks away life from a being when it is time.
We see the same pashupata Astra or pashupata arrow given to Arjuna during Mahabharata war which Arjuna never uses it in the war. It was a means to scare kauravas.
Now that we have background in this shiv ling concept and pashupata concept let's move ahead and state some observations and theories related to these in bahubali 1 & 2. Let's begin with the first part.
Shivudu lifts the statue which comes as a surprise to the priest or rishi who stays there as a protector of the ling. We see this scene where it catches everyone by surprise. The questions to ask here is why was there a protector of ling there and why was the ling there, exactly there in the first place? Why does it need protection and why does it come as surprise when shivudu lifts it?
Then after all the scenes, we see that Rajamata Shivagami is worshipping Lord Shiva in the kingdom. Notice that the ling here is spatika. But note that it has remarkable similarities with the shiv ling that shivudu lifted and it also has the same third eye in the same way. That means either they are made by the same sculptor or that god gave them both at the same time to men. If it is the second one, why did he give it in two different colors or stones? If a sculptor did it, why place it in a no man's land where the kings and noblemen find hard to go. Notice the episode in the animated series that shows Shivagami worshipping this shiv ling near the base of waterfall. Why? Why wasnt Bijjala not allowed in the name of royalty though his wife goes on to worship?
